Flagstaff Warranty Issued (FIXED!)

Just a quick note to comfort some of you Forest River owners:
We purchased an 08 Flagstaff ultralite in March. We used it several weekends and then a full week in NH and Cape Cod. When we arrived at CC, we found an overhead cabinet door cracked. It's above the dinette. Contacted the dealer, emailed some photos, had a replacement door within 2 weeks.
Aside from having to drill some holes to mount the door, everything went seamlessly!!! We're very pleased in that this is our 2nd warranty issue and both have been very pleasantly handled by both the dealer and Forest River!

RE: Flagstaff factory water filtration location?

Depends on how much water you are flowing. The beginning of each season should be reasonable for most recreational campers.

RE: Travel Trailer Freeway bounce or hop

One important thing the original poster left out --- your truck configuration. Do you have a short bed or a full 8' bed? I'd imagine wheel base of your TV could play some role in this......

RE: Battery?

If your question is ''do i need a battery for my TT if I only go to hook up site?'', the answer is yes. The emergency brake controller and the fridge (as stated above) need the 12v power.
If you're asking ''do i need to have the battery turned on while I am hooked to shore power?''. The answer is no. There's some lengthy discussion in previous posts about today's converters causing short battery life and boiling off the battery due to overcharging. A lot of folks install battery switches to prevent this while hooked to shore power for an extended amount of time. I'd encourage you to do some searching within the forum to get a more in depth answer, there's a ton of good info out there.

RE: NH: Beach Family Camping Area (N Conway)

I thought sites 6 and 7 were particularly nice. They backed up to the river but had nice level plateaus so you won't have to block the front of your rig up toooooooo much. Saw some interesting stuff on some other sites with wood/cinderblocks/etc. to get the front ends up high!

Mouse Hunting

So we found out that our brand new TT has a mouse in it. Had might be a better term, as we did not find the mouse in the 2 weeks we just spent in the rig, however we found the evidence. We also found that there's a nice little chase for the mouse to run around the camper in. It starts under the refrig and converter where some wires come up out of the floor. The mouse can then go into the back compartment under the bunks, through the side wall of the bunk compartment, into the bathroom under the tub and then come out a 4'' opening where the toilet plumbing comes up. This ties in the converter to the toilet paper and explains why I found mouse droppings by the TP and TP in a small nest under the converter.
Anyone else have issues like this? I'm currently trying to retro-fit some thin plywood to seal up the holes and compartmentalize each of these spaces. Hopefully I can find his access point and fill it with expanding foam insulation as we progress. Ahhhhh the joys of camper ownership!

RE: MA: Bayview Campground (Bourne)

We love the Cape, which is why we continually go back. We typically stay at BSP for Memorial day every year. The reason we chose to try Bayview was to see what else was out there. We took a ride to look at CG's last year on Columbus Day and thought Bayview would be nice because of the location, pools, and activities for our son (Almost 3 yrs old now).
We did have a nice time and thought the CG was very nice, but the harassment by some of the staff was a little ridiculous. I think if you're going to police rules, then police them all. We noted many occasions of kids under 16 riding past security with no helmets on - which is in the rules - and no one said a word. I guess the long and the short of it is consistency. We had the poor kid in the pool for 3 or 4 days with his body suit on and no one complained. We got a new staff member on the last 3 days watching the pool and she was borderline Hitler-style-strict.
At any rate, we may try Peter's Pond next time. I also hear BSP is putting in a pool, so we may just keep going there. Thats long been my only complaint with BSP is that they have no pool and no water access on the canal for swimming (for obvious reasons!).

RE: NH: Beach Family Camping Area (N Conway)

I actually have had 3 or 4 people tell me to look at Glen Ellis and that is a great CG. I think we might consider it for next time. We really did enjoy Beach though and would recommend it to others!

MA: Bayview Campground (Bourne)

Our second week of vacation brought us from our campsite in NH down to the Bayview Campground in Cape Cod. We're big fans of Bourne Scenic Park and wanted to give another campground a try.
We arrived July 26th and stayed through August 2nd. We stayed on Site 169 and enjoyed some very nice views of the golf course and rolling hills to the south of us. The site was mostly chip-rock with a little grass here and there. Campfires were allowed and we had one on 4 seperate nights. We thought the campground was quite pretty, with a nice mix of seasonals and transient sites.
We found that Bayview seems to have a million rules that have to be followed. The entire back of their map (8x11 paper, in about 8 point font) is a list of rules. Everything from ''keep your driving to necessity'' to maximum leash lengths for your dogs. It was truly amazing just how many rules they had and how arbitrary they were in enforcing them.
Unfortunately, some of their staff was quite rude including one lady that was guarding the pool like it was Fort Knox. She made a huge scene out of my son's body suit for swimming. He's 2 and we have a full body suit for him to swim in with built in bouyancy in the chest to build his confidence in the water. Apparently this violates their rule about flotation devices needing to be Coast Guard approved. Its unfortunate, because the Coast Guard only reviews life saving equipment and not swimming instruction devices. After a calm discussion with the lady, she decided to start yelling at us and making a scene in front of about 30 pool-goers. We reported her attitude to the management, however they didn't bother to fix the situation at all.
Having said that, the rest of our stay there was pretty decent. Lots of activities for the kids. They have cable at the site but we didn't have a long enough cable to reach, so we put up the antenna and got more digital broadcast TV than they had cable channels. Their campstore was very pricy for even the basics.
A word of caution for families: Bayview allows 2 adults on your site and charges extra for ALL children over the age of 2. A camping family of 5 can expect to pay $49 a night for the parents, plus a additional fee PER child. It gets expensive real quick.
Also a word of caution on their hook-ups --- there is not a breaker at the campsite. If you draw too much power and need a breaker to be reset, you have to call maintenance and they can take between 20 min and 2 hours to get your power back. The 30 amp power is very sensitive. We couldn't run our A/C for most nights because of the low voltage. Their electrical system could definately use an overhaul.
In summary, we enjoyed the park itself, but we will not be returning to Bayview due to the actions and attitudes of several staff members. We found the campground rules to be much more smothering than the many camgrounds and prefer a camground that is a litle more relaxed.

NH: Beach Family Camping Area (N Conway)

We're just back from our summer vacation and spent July 18-26 at the Beach Family Camping area in North Conway NH. Aside from some uncharacteristic rainy weather, we had an excellent time! The campground lies along the Saco River, just off Route 16. There's a very large beach area with easy access to the river. We were on pull-through site #23 and found the site to be quite the rain water collector! We had some minor flooding of the site, however the sand really soaked up the water quite quickly.
The campground had plenty of ammenities such as a game room, WiFi available, a playground, and a relaxed policy on dogs. We had easy access to 2 grocery stores nearby, as well as a walmart and Lowe's.
We spent some time at the shops on North Conway Green. We also spent a full day at both Story Land and Santa's Village. We highly recommend the drive to Santa's Village. It's about an hour from the campground but you drive around Mt Washington and the scenery is breath taking.
All in all, we enjoyed our time at the beach and would certainly go back there the next time we visit North Conway!

RE: Activities for cape or Lebanon, ME needed...

If you guys enjoy bike riding, there's a few excellent trails to ride on (all paved). Both sides of the Cape Cod Canal have paved trails. Both are about 6-7 miles long, so they can make a nice loop (which can be as long as you make it). The Cape Cod Rail Trail is off exit 9 on Route 6, its a total of about 22 miles up to Wellfleet and again, very scenic and you can ride as long as you wish. Finally, we rode the Shining Sea Bikeway last week in Falmouth. We did about 3.5 miles each way and spent some time in Woods Hole looking at the boats there. This was a beautifully scenic trail with some access to the beach (rocky/pebbles, not sand).
Just a couple of ideas!

RE: What gear do you tow in?

I did one better than Ford for info on my Expedition. I take mine to the local transmission shop for service religiously every 30K miles. Last time in there (about 3 weeks ago for my 120K change), I flat out asked the owner what I should do. These guys are professionals, they know transmissions, they do it for a living, so their advice is pretty darned good. They gave me a more straight forward answer than the parts changer at Ford could give last time I had a recall done at the dealership.

RE: Power Awning Pictures

So we're camping in NH and its been raining buckets all day. Our neighbors were nice enough to help dump our awning this AM. Found out the hard way that the weight of awning lights messes with the auto dump function! What we've done (and its still pouring!) was to crank the awning in about 3 inches so that the track for the awning lights is close to the underside of the awning. Then we took a ratchet-style tie down strap and hooked it to the upper frame (trailer side of the awning) and looped it around the awning spindle. A couple of ratchets later, we have a properly adjusted awning that has a little sag in it at one end and the water is running nicely. Just checked the radar and the cell that just went by was red's and orange's and the awning is not holding ANY water on top of it. Problem solved!
I'll post pics tomorrow one it's a little more camera friendly out in case anyone wants to visualize it better!

RE: Cool Mods

Camping World. Search for ''skid wheels'' and you will find them. They were like 39.99 with shipping. Bolt ons, I had to do a little repositioning on them to get them to fit because the V on the bracket had a narrower angle compared to the depth of the wheel bracket. We're rolling out tomorrow morning, so we'll see how they do.
Where did you get those wheels and were they welded on or bolted? I need those.

Closet mod that I found on this thread - we're not sold on the velcro, this is a work in progress.

RE: Caution: Myrtle Beach / Lakewood

Well, we spoke to the in-laws this weekend and there's good news! The chairs got replaced! Unfortunately (or fortunately) for them, it came at the cost of trading their old Georgie Boy motorhome in for a 2006 Fleetwood Providence diesel. The dealership threw in 2 chairs for them after the paperwork was signed. Good to see there's some decent folks out their still : )

RE: Do you lock your battery, propane tanks, and spare tire?

No to all, though I have plans to fabricate something to lock my bottles before we go to New Hampshire next week. I actually think I'm going to drill a hole in the ears of the nut that holds down the bottles and run a master lock through the trailer-side of the bracket. If nothing more, its a deterrent and if they really want them, they will get them.
